Virg Nye, the Science Guy

Virg has been doing all sorts of interesting science experiments lately.  His step-by-step methodical evaluation of the smallest details never ceases to bring about interesting results.  Often he will use his trusty assistant Emmett as his test subject, and often this will lead to a certain amount of set-backs due to Time-Outs in his room.  But this doesn't deter Virg from pursuing his scientific endeavors.  In fact, it tends to makes him even more determined than ever to discover the secrets of the universe.

Experiment #105 - How long can a traffic cone be balanced on the head of a constantly moving 3 year old?

Experiment #115 - If a small ball is whipped about repetedly inside a slinky, when will the slinky deform enough for the ball to be released and fly across the room to hit the test subject?

Experiment #178 - How fast can someone eat a piece of jelly toast without loosing half of the jelly on face, hands, floor, etc.?

Virg-i-oku

Sometimes, Virg evolves into his Japanese anime version, and we like to call him:  Virg-i-oku.  In his sprite form, Virg-i-oku has admirable Poke-athlon stats and has mastered a variety of complicated moves including Hyper Beam, Agility, Brick Break, Slam, Wild Charge, and Rock Smash.  However, in his evolved state, Virg-i-ka, things really start to get interesting, especially when his rival, Emmett-mon, shows up.  If Virg-i-ka stores up too much energy from eating chocolate hearts and gummy worms, his behavior becomes aggressive and he has to discharge excess energy by running around and screaming at the top of his lungs, in order to calm himself down.  This usually produces quite a show, especially because Emmett-mon usually soaks up most of the energy as Virg-i-ka releases it, thus evolving Emmett-mon into his electrified state:  Emmett-a-chu.  At this point, it's time to batten down the hatches.

It's Wrestle-Mania Madness (WMM) 2012

We might as well just build a big wrestling cage in the middle of the dining room and hang an announcer's microphone from the ceiling, at this point.  The boys have been bitten by the wrestling bug, and of course this is only the beginning.  Luckily, we don't have any metal folding chairs handy, but the baby doll stroller has been wielded more than once.  Mommy is not the best referee, since she just tends to shut the whole thing down before the boys even start getting warmed up.  Daddy will at least allow them to get some creative moves in before he steps in to break it up.  So far, Virg's favorite move is to sit on little brother's head and twist his arm until he starts pounding the mat and Mommy drags him out laughing.  The little guys are tougher than you think.

Look out Emmett! It's the Crusher!

Snow days!

Virg and his brother are intrepid outdoorsmen when it comes to snow days.  They can hardly wait for Mom to get them geared up before running out into this rarely seen winter wonderland. Virg's favorite is the snow shovel plow.  If Mommy would leave him alone out there long enough, he'd have the entire driveway, sidewalk and half the street cleared in no time, but you know how Mommies are about frozen fingers and toes.  Emmett prefers to hike around the perimeter inspecting the unique effects the snow produces in the front yard, porch, and nearby surroundings.  Of course, unable to continue to resist the lure of the one-inch snow cover, the last thing the boys had to do before calling it quits was flop down in the snow for some serious snow angel action.

The two explorers survey the newly snow-covered landscape.

Venturing out to take a closer look at their surroundings.

Snow is serious business around here.

Watch out!  It's angel-makin' time!

Under construction...Open in 2012

This year, Virg's favorite Christmas present was a set of Bob the Builder construction trucks from Daddy that included Lofty, Muck, Scoop, and Bob's whole crew.  On any day of the week, foreman Virg can be seen directing the crew on a number of fix-it jobs and new construction sites.  They'll be up and running in 2012.  We're all looking forward to see what comes next.

Good enough to eat...

Just before Christmas, Virg brought home the tastiest looking stable I've ever seen, complete with marshmallow angels and sheep, wise men with gum drop gifts, and a peanut in a manger.  Now, there would seem to be a fundamental problem with eating the scene of the birth of our Lord Jesus, but Virg had no reservations about it.  The way he sees it, those wise men were asking for it when they chose to leave the houes wearing gum drops for hats.

Virg is ready to "mange" this manger scene.
Silent night, holy night, or not.

It's amazing what can be accomplished with a few graham crackers, a lot of frosting and some stay-puff marshmallows.

Jingle all the way!

Virgil loves Christmas carols.  In fact, he could sing Jingle Bells all day long if you asked him to, and if you gave him some little silver bells to shake along to the rhythm, he could go on ad infinitum. What is Virg's secret to his incredible high register and volume range, you may ask?  Virg chalks it up to good genetics, regular exercise, and lots and lots of blueberries.

When Virg rolls around to the 17th verse of Jingle Bells,
Emmett starts to wonder if it's time to break for Christmas cookies.
