Music is the most fun!

Virg can be anything he wants to be when he grows up. If Virg is into sports - Dad will learn the difference between a touch down and a home run. If he's into computers and video games - Mom will learn to memorize all the "A - B - Up - Up - Down - B - B - A" combos that are needed to get past the hard levels so we can play along with Virg. But until then, Virg is an official member of the Hansen family band. We play every and any musical instrument we can find, and we don't mind if the chords don't harmonize every time. It doesn't bother us if the tempo changes seventy-seven times during a song. We absolutely love the fact that Virg is the star of the band and everything he plays sounds like gold to his Mom and Dad!

Start over!
Daddy keeps messing up on the fourth measure.

Shaken - Not stirred

If Virg has learned anything from Daddy, it's that everything is more appealing when served in a Martini glass. Sure, he could put his 'Gerber Organic Brown Rice Whole Grain Cereal for Babies' in a cup or a shallow bowl, but who wants to eat like a common baby? No, Virg likes his baby mush in a chilled Martini glass, with a small chunk of mozzarella cheese (no bigger then 3 centimeters cubed) speared on a red cocktail sword, hung on the right side of the glass. That's his right side, not your right side. If it's not done correctly, he's not shy about sending it back to the bar. I mean come on people... show a little class.

The name's Henry... Virg Henry.

The dreaded grocery list

The Daddy's memory isn't what it used to be, and if memory serves me, it used to be pretty bad. So there are now a plethora of lists to keep Daddy on track. A To-Do list, a Honey-Due list, a wish list, and of course the grocery list. If someone didn't know what a grocery store was I could only describe it as a place where you pay to be frustrated and watch the minutes of your life slip away. There is no logic involved in setting up a grocery store. I'm surprised they don't just skip the buildings, aisles and shelves and just dump all the supplies in a big pile in the middle of a parking lot. Now that Virg is on solids, he's all into helping Mommy with the grocery list. So Daddy's off to the grocery store again for organic this... cream of that... blended something... and infused yummy stuff.

Don't forget the Pickled Herring baby food!

Yes We Can!

Jan 20th, 2009! Obama is the new Big Cheese is DC! Virg's best friend Thomas is born! Virg is eating solids!

Yes, the world is changing, and it tastes fantastic. But Virg isn't afraid of change. His middle name is change (if you spelled it completely wrong and mispronounced it so that it sounded like 'change'). In fact, Virg eats change for breakfast. That's right, 'Change' is the new breakfast cereal for babies that is sweeping the nation. Make this cereal part of your complete breakfast. Apparently the complete breakfast includes just the cereal and a stuffed bee finger puppet.

Mmmmmm... you can really taste that hope of the future
(or is that the organic brown rice).

When moose attack!

As most of you are aware, there is only one true enemy to the survival of the human race. The moose! I have know this since birth, it's in my DNA. Virg, unfortunately, had to learn this the hard way. It was a beautiful day, and Mommy decided to take a picture with Virg holding some of the apple butter she had made. Virg was wearing his plaid flannel and the backdrop of the picture was a beautiful evergreen tree. The "cute" moose was added to round out the picture. But you should never trust a moose...

As you can see, everything looks fine at first. Virg is adorably cute and the moose seems to be having a good time as well... Then BAM!!! MOOSE ATTACK!!!

A wise man once said: 'The secret to surviving a moose attack is to still be alive after the moose attacks.' Luckily Virg has a cedar-belt in Mountain-man Kung Fu.

Virg... the plot thickens even more!

The cold weather has been keeping most of the city's rat race indoors today. At least everyone who's still holding down an honest job. Vince the Rose had decided it was best to lay low after his last hit, and the heat has finally gone cold along with the weather. Now that he's back, Vince has been hearing a new name on the streets, and he's got a feeling about this new "The Knife" character. Whenever Vince gets a feeling, it's usually followed by an itch. If there's one thing you can count on from "The Rose", it's a scratch.

But over in our little town, we went for another stroller ride today. But do you notice anything different? Virg has graduated to the upright stroller position. That's right! No more backwards facing car seat in the stroller. Virg is taking the world head on, strapped in a chair, wearing a monkey suit, wrapped in a yellow blanket. Virg's Daddy has been told he can look forward to a similar lifestyle when he gets older, but that's another blog.

Feeling fine in O-Nine

With a little help from the Virg, everyone was able to stay up for the big super exciting end of the year change over. Virg was expecting some big color explosion emanating from the heavens, large claps of thunder, and Ode to Joy sung by a choir of angles. Instead of all that, Virg got to watch his Daddy and Grandma and Grandpa put together a puzzle. Hey! Don't judge. It's more fun than you think it is; at least that's what we tell ourselves every year. And look what we have to show for our hard work:

Note: Grandpa's blue trunk section missing from photo

The Mommy called up Virg's fairy Godmother and the conversation went as follows:

Mommy: Happy New Year! What fun things are you guys up to?
Fairy Godmother: We're at a fantastic little New York restaurant having a great time with the Godfather's brother and wife, or as we like to call them... 'The Family'. What are you and the Virg doing?
Mommy: A puzzle.
Fairy Godmother: A what?
Mommy: A puzzle.
Fairy Godmother: I'm sorry, this is a really loud restaurant. It sounded like you said a puzzle.
Mommy: Yup, I did.
Fairy Godmother: Oh! Well, what fun thing will you be doing later.
Mommy: The same puzzle.
Fairy Godmother: I'm sorry what?
Mommy: The same puzzle.
Fairy Godmother: ... Your going to think this is odd, but it sounds like you keep saying a puzzle.
Mommy: ... yup.
Fairy Godmother: Well... ok. Happy New Year!

Happy new year!
